A Very Special July 4th Fireworks Celebration
This Fourth of July will be of special significance to me. I have chosen this day as my 10-year anniversary celebration of surviving Stage IV cancer – and also turning 60.
I received the disturbing prognosis that my cancer had returned, and therefore, based on the “law of averages” I had 180 days or so to live. Not encouraging – a tough road ahead.
I am not writing this letter for attention, but instead for others that are struggling with cancer, or who are going to.
I’ve decided to sponsor the Grand Marais Fourth of July fireworks. The expense of the fireworks is my gift to myself and others that will hopefully find strength.
I chose not to accept cancer as my destiny and I did my best to take back control of my life. Cancer does not have to be a death sentence, never give up.
It won’t be easy. It is a struggle, but it could be the last fight of your life, so why not make it a good one. Resist and do your best.
I want to thank my friends that supported me and let me lean on them. Thank you to the ones that did not shy away or abandon me. Thank you for being there for me in any way you could.
So, for those who want to share with me the fireworks display of this night, I hope it gives you strength. It’s there – just find it.
Thank you anonymous donor!
