Notch Corner

Encounter Minnesota's most extraordinary place

There’s a reason our motto is “Way North of Ordinary.” Life is bigger here in Cook County, MN along legendary Highway 61. Here in the tip of Minnesota’s Arrowhead, amidst the north shore of Lake Superior and the pristine Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), you can go bigger, play harder and relax better than anywhere else in the Midwest.

Cook County, MN is the only place where you can enjoy Lake Superior – the world’s largest freshwater lake, visit Minnesota’s tallest mountain peaks and highest waterfall, ski the largest ski resort in the Midwest and enjoy its longest and most scenic biking trails.

Head to Lutsen, Tofte and Schroeder to hike the craggy Sawtooth Mountains and Eagle Mountain, Minnesota’s highest peak. Rent bikes and ride the family-friendly Gitchi-Gami State Trail. Or dare our heart-pounding singletrack.

Discover hidden treasures in the artsy harbor town of Grand Marais. Go sailing on Lake Superior. Watch the sunset behind the lighthouse while savoring some of our local artisan cuisine. (Our award-winning eateries have been featured on the Food Network.)

Drive the scenic Gunflint Trail to look for moose (we have over 4,000) or head out on a BWCAW canoe adventure. Escape from it all by sleeping under a blanket of stars.

Follow scenic Highway 61 to Grand Portage where the US and Canada meet. Discover the Ojibwa culture, learn about voyager history and, hopefully, find a little bit of luck.

Tuckered out? From lakeside cabins to the retreat in the woods to the luxury hotel you discover that our lodging properties will exceed your expectations too. We’ll leave the northern lights on for you.
