Gravel Cycling Classic
Find lodging for your Memorial Day weekend biking adventure–there’s no reason not to bring the whole family to cheer you on!
Behind every great race is a group of good people volunteering to make it happen. If you’re not planning on racing, please think about being a volunteer–there are some pretty good perks too. Find out more information by clicking the link below.
See the racers off on Wisconsin Street downtown Grand Marais (between Broadway and Java Moose) from 7:45 – 8 am on Saturday. Please participate in cheering the racers on! Dress up, bring signs–it’s a party!
WELCOME TO LE GRAND DU NORD
Le Grand represents one of the most amazing gravel courses in the United States. Beginning in Grand Marais, Minnesota’s spectacular harbor, all three events follow the shores of Lake Superior before climbing to their final destinations. With more than 5500 ft of climbing and a checkpoint view overlooking the Pigeon River and Canada, the 100 mile course is the steepest route of the three Heck Production events. The 58 mile course has plenty of climbing and miles of forested roads. The 20 mile route is a Le Grand-worthy introduction to gravel cycling with its mix of paved and gravel roads, climbing and great Lake Superior views.
We want Le Grand du Nord to be more than just amazing gravel riding. We will have Voyageur Brewing Company host and provide their exceptional craft beer on Friday and Saturday. After the ride on Saturday, join us for live music at Voyageur Brewing Company. This amazing small town will be a great place to bring the family. Don’t forget, Grand Marais will have artwork, shopping and site seeing throughout the weekend. It’s one of the prettiest spots on earth and plays host to a great weekend of gravel cycling.
The 100 course will have checkpoints at mile 40 and 68. The 58 mile course will have a checkpoint at mile 27. All events will run on the Heck/Le Grand principles of cue card navigation, self-supported riding ethics and physically challenging courses. All will be exceptionally beautiful. The aspens will be in full lime-green splendor, the insects at a minimum (usually!) and woods waking up to a new Spring.
Our goal with Le Grand du Nord is to take all that we love about gravel cycling and bring it together for one special weekend. Amazing routes, great beer and food, and time spent outside with your friends and family. Doesn’t get much better than that. Hope to see you up North this May.
And as always, I will see you at the finish line.
