October Guest Lecture: History of Naniboujou Lodge
October 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm$5
Tim and Nancy Ramey moved to Grand Marais in 1980 to run Naniboujou Lodge for Campus Church who had purchased it from Luther and Susie Wallace. The Ramey’s were selected to operate the lodge as the Wallace’s had been friends of theirs for years. They were close to Bill and Luke who died of hypothermia in a canoeing accident on Lake Superior in 1977 so the Ramey’s had come up frequently afterwards to help the Wallace’s. Thus, they were familiar with the lodge prior to moving here.
When they first arrived from Minneapolis, the Ramey’s had 3 children but eventually were gifted with 7 who all had a hand in operating the lodge over the years. Eventually they built a house near the lodge where they still reside.
By the end of 1984, the church wanted out of Naniboujou Lodge and in a story that would take a book to convey, the Ramey’s bought the lodge in 1985 and have owned and operated it until present. One of the children is currently employed at Naniboujou.
Come listen to Tim share his many stories about the history of Naniboujou and his family running the historic Lodge and Restaurant!
