George Morrison Stamp Release

The United States Postal Service will honor Native American Modernist Artist George Morrison (1919-2000) with a First-Day-of-Issue Stamp Dedication Ceremony at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at Grand Portage Lodge & Casino in Grand Portage, Minnesota. The pane of 20 George Morrison Commemorative Forever Stamps shows five of Morrison’s abstract landscapes, painted between 1949 and 1995.

The Stamp Dedication Ceremony will take place indoors at Grand Portage Lodge & Casino. The program will feature traditional drumming from Stonebridge Singers, live music, a pipe ceremony, and speakers. Attendees to include state, tribal, and local dignitaries, members of the public, artists, museum directors, the Morrison Family, and representatives of the Grand Portage National Monument.

The event is free and open to the public. Ceremony attendees are encouraged to RSVP at usps.com/georgemorrison.
