Voters now have additional week to vote for Grand Marais in Budget Travel Magazine’s coolest small towns contest

COOK COUNTY, Minn. – Feb. 23, 2015 — The deadline for choosing America’s coolest small town has been extended for an additional week. Budget Travel Magazine says, “it’s been overwhelmed with voting, and wants to extend the poll one week to allow everyone to have a say.  Voters can cast their vote only once per day per IP address.  This is to ensure that no robo-voting (automatic spam voting) can take place.  Consequently, we have had a number of frustrated people who have had issues casting their vote from public locations such as the workplace; this extra time will allow the public to get their vote counted.”

Now with just over a week to go in Budget Travel Magazine’s contest to crown the coolest small town in America, Grand Marais currently has about a 4-percentage-point lead in the national contest. Its biggest competitor is Chincoteague, Virginia.  Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.

“Grand Marais supporters can vote once a day,” says Linda Kratt, executive director of Visit Cook County.  “Since Budget Travel allows only one vote per Internet server, Visit Cook County staff members and other supporters are voting from our cell phones.”

“The easiest way to vote is to go to Visit Cook County.  We have a link to Budget Travel’s voting page. After you place your vote, you can immediately check the results to see how we are doing. If we win, the publicity we receive will mean more visitors to our area and more business for our local restaurants, shops and lodging owners. ”

Visit Cook County is planning a celebration party after the winning announcements are received from Budget.
