The Candlelight Ski and Snowshoe Hike was founded by Greg Fangel and his wife. He is an avid cross-country skier and a Tofte resident. He has been a cross-country skier since 1972, and is the owner of, a business that acquires, preserves, sells and educates about cross-country wooden skis dating back to the early 1900’s.

A friend of Fangel’s, Arne Roheim from Hamar, Norway will be traveling to Cook County soon to prepare for the American Birkebeiner, which takes place Feb. 20 in Hayward, Wis. He tells Fangel that the Sugarbush Trail reminds him of the trails near Hamar, Norway.

Lit cross-country trails are available throughout the winter season at area lodges, including at Golden Eagle and Bearskin Lodge.
