The road to adventure is sometimes called Highway 61 North. It leads to Cook County, Minnesota where many tourists and locals alike can find a variety of outdoor experiences. Whether it’s the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Superior Hiking Trail or Lake Superior something calls out to people beckoning them to visit the North Shore.
Those adventurers will now have another compelling reason to visit Grand Marais in particular. Voyageur Brewing Company is using the clean, cold waters of the largest freshwater lake and making exceptionally tasting craft beer on the shore of Lake Superior. The brewery and tasting room is opening February 12th and the owners couldn’t be more excited.
“I’m thrilled to be able to make a local craft beer for people to enjoy not only in our taproom in Grand Marais but also out on their own adventures. Every type of voyage is made even better with a craft beer,” says Cara Sporn one of the owners.
Cara’s family along with the two other families involved in Voyageur Brewing Company moved to Grand Marais and beyond seeking their own adventures. Now each of those families wants to share in the adventures of those living in and visiting the area.
“There’s no better time to talk about a great fishing trip or canoe trip than when you have a cold craft beer in your hand,” says owner Mike Prom. “We want to hear what adventures our guests are having in our neck of the woods and give them another reason to want to return. The ambiance and friendliness at Voyageur Brewing Company will be that other reason.”
Who better to know about adventures than owner Mike Prom? He moved to the area over 20 years ago when he purchased Voyageur Canoe Outfitters. Living at the end of the Gunflint Trail 56 miles from the nearest town is an adventure in itself.
Voyageur Brewing Company will be the place for locals and visitors to talk about their own adventures while drinking craft beer brewed on site. Tasty appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages along with welcoming atmosphere and the view of Lake Superior will no doubt make the place a favorite of all who visit.
