At the very tip of Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region, right on the Canadian border, sits the vibrant community of Grand Portage. Things to Do in Grand Portage, Minnesota

  • Visit High Falls, Minnesota's tallest waterfall at Grand Portage State Park. At 120 feet, the falls are a spectacle all year round. The half-mile paved trail from the visitor center to the falls is gentle and wheelchair accessible. 
  • Test your luck at Grand Portage Lodge & Casino. The recently renovated lodge and casino features entertainment and gaming year-round. Don't forget to grab a bite to eat in the lakeside dining room serving up daily specials and incredible views of Grand Portage bay. 
  • Explore Grand Portage National Monument & Heritage Center, where you’ll learn about the culture and traditions of the Grand Portage Ojibwe people and the area's role in the fur trade era with the French voyaguers. 
  • Hike Mount Josephine and find an exhilarating hike with breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Superior, Grand Portage Bay, Isle Royale and the Susie Islands. This 2.5-mile hike is challenging, rewarding and so much fun. Unable to make the hike? Stop at the Wayswaugoing Bay Overlook wayside rest along Highway 61 for dramatic views of Mount Josephine. 
  • Take a day trip to Isle Royale National Park located only 22-miles offshore from Grand Portage. Reserve a trip aboard the ferry from Grand Portage or launch your own boat from the Grand Portage Marina and RV Campground. Due to it's remote location, it has been listed as one of America's least visited national parks. Known as "Minong" by the Grand Portage Band of Ojibwe, this archipelago offers excellent hiking, fishing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing. 
  • Ride the trails! Grand Portage has an extensive network of groomed snowmobile trails that wind through some of the most remote and breathtaking forests in the region. Connect up to over 400-miles of groomed snowmobile trails that run from Grand Portage, up the Gunflint Trail, and down the North Shore of Lake Superior.
