May 07, 2024 – Grand Marais, Minn.--On May 7th, a Chamber Exchange was held to allow Chamber Members to engage in open communication with our community leaders about matters that are occurring in the community. Topics of conversation included ADA accessible bathrooms, lawn maintenance, cannabis laws, open bottle laws, and the issues that arise with cannabis and permits to carry.
“These are important conversations to have in an open setting with business leaders and owners,” said Linda Jurek, Executive Director of the Cook County Chamber of Commerce and Visit Cook County. “We need to collaborate and develop a plan that works for everyone.”
Business leaders heard from Sheriff Pat Eliason, Parks and Rec Director Dave Tersteeg, Mayor Tracy Benson, and City Administrator Mike Roth. Questions were answered that directly affect the small business community and insight was provided on the next steps for future collaboration between city leaders and the Cook County Chamber of Commerce.
Later in the evening, members were welcomed by the smell of fresh coffee being brewed in the new coffee bar at Joynes Ben Franklin, the Connect hosts for the evening. Members engaged in conversations regarding new improvements to Cook County, Minnesota. Business leaders shared upcoming events that fellow members may be interested in. Chamber Connects ensure fellow businesses are being kept in the loop about all the new events and changes occurring. Owners of Joynes Ben Franklin, Tyler and Jessica Dean spoke about new business trends.
“We are discovering a wide range of products that have been popular in the past are coming back in style again,” said Tyler Dean, Co-Owner of Joynes Ben Franklin. “We have options for the whole family.”
The Cook County Chamber of Commerce will continue to provide a platform for Chamber members to ask questions and have their voices heard. These initiatives not only build connections and transparency with community leaders but ensure our Chamber members have a voice.
