Weddings in Cook County
Imagine the sound of waves crashing, the smell of wildflowers and the feeling of fresh air as you exchange the wedding vows of “I Do.” These feelings, along with the variety of resorts and venues, make Lutsen-Tofte-Schroeder, Grand Marais, the Gunflint Trail and Grand Portage the most uniquely special wedding destinations in Minnesota. From small family-operated lodges to high-end venues that accommodate hundreds, you’ll be able to find the location to suit your needs.
The Perfect Location Awaits…
Does a remote chapel set in the pines sound best, or maybe an intimate campsite in the BWCAW? Or does a rocky ledge rock beach or sheltered cobblestone cove fit you better? Waterfalls and buffalo plaid attire, or a wedding party dressed in vintage silks and lace in a rustic log lodge? You decide. It’s your day. Your wedding can be on the shores of Lake Superior or an inland lake setting, both are surrounded by the natural beauty of the Superior National Forest creating a gorgeous destination event.
Our area is unquestionably made for picturesque weddings and ceremonies with secluded areas and romance. There are naturally stunning backdrops of river filled state parks, wilderness hiking trails, Lake Superior’s rocky shoreline and mossy green forests. And, we have ceremony officiants, churches, caterers, florists, restaurants, lodges and locations to accommodate your guests and celebration – whatever you need, you can find in Cook County.
Families and large wedding parties can book anything from a wing of a chic lodge to cabins or hotel rooms for a memorable experience. Don’t forget the great opportunity to return in future years to relive memories, celebrate anniversaries and share other milestones.
Celebrate Your Way
Couples that choose Cook County as a wedding destination are the type who like to put their own unique spin on the event. We’ve seen just about everything, and we’ve loved every single minute of it.
- Low key in hiking boots or high heels (though we recommend wedges!)
- A bouquet made of fishing lures
- Arrival to the ceremony in a fishing boat
- Cupcakes delivered in a canoe
- Large and lovely traditional white organza ceremonies in luxurious resorts
- Intimate, remote winter weddings with grooms in Stormy Kromer hats and mukluks and brides donning woolen winter capes
Seasons of Love
While summer is the most popular time for weddings, there is splendor to be found during all seasons in Cook County. Spring brings rushing waterfalls and rivers, not to mention freshly-bloomed wildflowers. Fall is a time of tumultuous beauty with cooler, crisp air and a palate of goldenrod, pumpkin orange and firetruck red, the colors won’t cease to amaze. Plan a winter wedding for the opportunity to get married inside a snow globe. The winter season in all of our communities is straight out of a fairy tale, snow-drooped trees and ice crystals included.
Local Vendors Add the Perfect Touches
Due to our remoteness, we may not have the large roster of wedding-driven business vendors of an urban area, but that does not mean local vendors are not amazing at what they do! Our photographers are experienced with our weather and terrain, our bakers can deliver wedding cakes via a Dopplemeyer Gondola and our florists know just how to accent the natural character of your chosen location. Contact our Visitor Information Center staff for a list of our vendors.
