Community Celebrates Reopening of Poplar River Bridge
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrates Restoration of Key Recreational Link
Feb 18, 2025 – Lutsen, Minn. – The Cook County Chamber of Commerce and Visit Cook County attended a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 18th to celebrate the reopening of the newly constructed Poplar River Bridge. The original bridge was washed out during a severe storm in 2022, significantly impacting recreational users and the local community. The new bridge represents a vital restoration of a key multi-use trail.
The ceremony marked the culmination of collaborative efforts between numerous organizations, including the U.S Forest Service, Visit Cook County, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Lutsen Township, Cook County Board, WTIP, the community of Lutsen, and the Lutsen Trail Breakers. Representatives from each organization were in attendance to celebrate the bridges reopening.
“The reopening of the Poplar River Bridge is a testament to the power of community collaboration,” said Linda Jurek, Executive Director of the Cook County Chamber of Commerce and Visit Cook County. “This project demonstrates the commitment of various organizations to preserving and enhancing recreational opportunities in Cook County. We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and the return of access to this important trail, which will have a positive impact on local businesses that rely on tourism and outdoor recreation.”
The Poplar River Bridge is essential for a variety of recreational activities, serving as a crucial link for snowmobilers, hikers, cyclists, skiers, and other outdoor enthusiasts. The new bridge not only restores access but also enhances safety and usability for all.
The Cook County Chamber of Commerce and Visit Cook County recognize the significant impact this bridge reconstruction has on both residents and visitors and is grateful for the dedication and hard work of everyone in bringing this bridge into fruition.
