Two women holding the book they wrote

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRAND MARAIS, MN (Cook County) — Visit Cook County is proud to highlight an inspiring new project rooted in Minnesota’s North Shore: She Does – Words of Wisdom from North Shore Mompreneurs, a book celebrating entrepreneurship, motherhood, and community through the voices of local women building businesses while raising families.

Created by Cook County mompreneurs Gina Joyce and Laura Muus, She Does is the result of a year-long effort to document the stories of 38 North Shore women through heartfelt interviews and professional photography.

The Inspiration

What began as a simple conversation between two mothers quickly became a mission: to celebrate the women who lead, create, and build along the North Shore — between school drop-offs, late-night emails, and long days balancing business ownership with family life.

“From the beginning, we knew this project was bigger than a book,” said Gina and Laura. “We wanted to create something that celebrates these amazing women who are doing both with intention — building businesses and raising families — and share their words of wisdom for others to learn from and be inspired by.”

Project Highlights

Over the course of 12 months, Gina and Laura:

  • Conducted nearly 20 hours of interviews
  • Completed 80 photoshoots to bring the book to life
  • Traveled more than 300 miles across the North Shore

The result is a powerful and visually stunning collection of real stories, honest advice, and community-driven inspiration from 38 North Shore mompreneurs.

Launch Event – May 20, 2026

The official She Does book launch is open to the public and will take place at Johnson Heritage Post in downtown Grand Marais on May 20, 2026 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., bringing together the featured mompreneurs, local business supporters, and community members to celebrate the project’s release. The event will include opportunities to meet the creators, connect with the women from the book, and purchase signed copies. Additional copies will be available for purchase at local retailers and online at www.she-does.org.

More Than a Book: A Growing Platform

Visit Cook County is honored to share this community-rooted initiative, which highlights the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to shape the region. She Does celebrates the women of the North Shore — and showcases Cook County as a place where creativity, leadership, and community thrive.

In addition to the book, Gina and Laura are expanding She Does into a broader platform, including the launch of She Does: The Podcast in late May, and additional announcements to follow. Gina and Laura also plan to expand She Does to feature female entrepreneurs from other Minnesota communities in the near future.
