The wait is finally over! Around here, we spend all winter dreaming of June, and now that those 16-hour days are here, we aren’t wasting a single moment of sunlight. The harbor is bustling, the trails are calling, and there’s a sense of celebration in every corner of the county, from the tip of the Gunflint down to the waves in Tofte. We hope you join us in cheering on the dust-covered riders of the Lutsen 99er, raising a flag for Pride, or watching a hand-carved boat slide into the Big Lake for the first time. June is the month we truly come alive. Grab a coffee, lean into the solstice light, and let's dive into the best of what's happening in our neck of the woods.

Annual Gunflint Trail Clean Up June 6th | Gunflint Trail

A poster of the Gunflint Clean Up event June 6, 2026.

There’s a certain kind of pride that comes with loving a wild place enough to take care of it. The Annual Gunflint Trail Clean Up is one of those quietly meaningful North Shore traditions that brings locals, cabin owners, outfitters, and visitors together for a shared morning of stewardship along one of Minnesota’s most beloved scenic roads. Volunteers sign up for stretches of the Trail, spending the morning combing ditches, shorelines, and pull-offs for litter before gathering back together for the always-fun “Trash Bash” at Schaap Community Center.

This event feels less like a chore and more like a community gathering with work gloves on. There’s free food, live conversation, family activities, tree planting, and plenty of stories swapped over the weirdest things found roadside throughout the morning. It’s the kind of event that reminds you how deeply people care about this place and how that care shows up in small, hands-on ways.
